About The Position

Smithfield Foods is hiring a Grinder/High Lift team member for a second-shift production role. As a Powered Equipment Operator, the employee supports safe, high-quality food production by moving products throughout the facility and supporting coworkers. The role contributes to a safe, efficient production line and requires reliability, attention to detail, teamwork, and willingness to learn. Specific certifications may be required during the qualification period. The work can be physically demanding and involves operating powered equipment, working in production conditions, and meeting safety and quality standards. Employees must be able to work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime based on production demands. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Demonstrate good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Be able to work the scheduled shift and potentially overtime depending on production demands.
Be able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Be able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Be willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
Be able to work with a box cutter.
Be able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees, and in wet and humid conditions.
Be able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, steel-toed safety shoes, and other personal protective equipment in a noisy environment.
Be able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals and around strong smells or odors.
Be able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
Be able to bend, stoop, and twist repetitively over the course of an entire shift and walk long distances.
May need certification to operate equipment required for the position.
Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, single lifting of objects up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
Have close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Use forklifts, jack lifts, high lifts, and other powered industrial trucks to move products throughout the facility.
Support production tasks and coworkers while helping maintain a safe and efficient production line.
Meet required equipment certifications during the qualification period.
Follow oral and written instructions and comply with safety and quality standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
