About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program is a high-octane, 10-week immersive experience designed to train the next generation of media professionals. Participants will dive head-first into the fast-paced world of local media, taking ownership of real-world assignments from day one. This program is not a typical internship; it's an opportunity to craft news stories, track weather, close digital ad deals, and become a vital part of an award-winning team. The program aims to provide hands-on experience in roles such as producers, multimedia journalists (MMJs), meteorologists, and sales executives. Participants will create content for various platforms, including social media, streaming apps, and web stories, reflecting a digital-first approach. The program offers unprecedented access to Gray Media's network of 113 stations across the U.S. and is designed as a fast-track to potential full-time career opportunities within the company.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in college/university (preferred Junior/Senior status).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, News, Sports, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset with a willingness to take initiative and get hands-on experience.
  • Understanding of digital media platforms and how media is consumed across various devices.
  • Strong work ethic, organization skills, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Clear and confident communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, or explaining information.
  • Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and the 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local communities and understanding the impact of local media.

Responsibilities

  • Own the role: Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Drive digital engagement: Create content that lives beyond the TV screen, including social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Collaborate with pros: Work side-by-side with seasoned veterans to gain insights.
  • Commit to the craft: Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering a specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
