About The Position

The Communications and Graphic Design Specialist plays a key role in elevating Neighborhood House’s brand, visual storytelling, and digital presence. As part of a small, fast-moving, collaborative Communications and Marketing team within the Advancement team, this position creates compelling visual assets across print, digital, and social media platforms that engage, inspire, and mobilize our community. The ideal candidate can translate complex ideas into clear, visually engaging materials while managing multiple projects and deadlines; is creative, collaborative, and organized; and demonstrates strong skills in design and project management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, or related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2-4 years of professional design experience (nonprofit experience a plus).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere or Rush).
  • Demonstrated experience creating designs for print campaigns.
  • Strong attention to detail, layout, typography, and visual consistency.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a small, fast-moving team.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, incorporate feedback, and prioritize effectively.
  • Cultural humility and the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and file-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Experience creating graphics for social media and digital campaigns.
  • Photography skills (basic to intermediate).
  • Social media management skills (basic to intermediate).
  • Experience with ethical fundraising practices.
  • Ability to produce short-form video content and motion graphics.
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements for digital content.
  • Experience creating branded templates or visual guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design print materials including brochures, flyers, event programs, reports, signage, and mailers.
  • Create digital assets such as email graphics, website visuals, motion graphics, infographics, and campaign collateral.
  • Translate brand guidelines consistently across all platforms and materials.
  • Implement inclusive and accessible design practices.
  • Partner with internal teams to develop materials that support fundraising, programs, events, and community outreach goals.
  • Obtain project estimates that align with budget goals, deliver final files for print production, and coordinate with print vendors as needed to assure quality and timely production.
  • Design graphics and visual content for social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn).
  • Support the development of digital campaigns that grow visibility and engagement.
  • Maintain an organized visual content library and ensure brand accuracy across platforms.
  • Assist the Communications team as needed with social media content, including writing, refining, or posting social captions and messaging to accompany visuals.
  • Uphold brand standards and contribute to evolving visual identity elements.
  • Provide creative consultation to internal partners.
  • Work collaboratively with communications, fundraising, and program teams on projects, events, and campaigns.
  • Support cross-functional projects and help streamline visual requests and workflows.
  • Oversee multiple design projects simultaneously with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Use Monday.com to track tasks, deadlines, and approvals.
  • Maintain an organized system for file storage, versioning, and asset delivery.
  • Actively support and champion the mission and programs of Neighborhood House.
  • Actively support Neighborhood House’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and radical hospitality.
  • Conduct all activities with a high degree of cultural competency.
  • Maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
  • Consistently uphold Neighborhood House policies, procedures, and confidentiality protocols.
