About The Position

Shalom Austin is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Graphic Designer to join their marketing team. This role involves visual storytelling and bringing ideas to life through design. The designer will work with a collaborative team to create a variety of assets, including event signage, print materials, social graphics, and digital campaigns for different departments within Shalom Austin. A key responsibility includes designing the quarterly magazine, 'The Jewish Outlook'. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, cares about community, and can translate ideas into clean, engaging visuals. This is a full-time, salaried position requiring the candidate to be a local Greater Austin resident. The role is hybrid, with at least two days per week in the office, and may require attending events outside of working hours.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of hands-on graphic design experience (in-house, agency, or non-profit/association background is a plus).
  • A degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Art, or a related field—OR an equivalent portfolio showing strong design experience.
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and comfortable using Canva for quick-turn assets and team templates.
  • Solid understanding of typography, print pre-press processes, color management (CMYK vs. RGB), and working with external print vendors.
  • Comfort handling multiple design projects at once, managing your time well, and meeting deadlines in a steady workflow (experience with tools like Monday.com is a bonus).
  • Strong communication skills with an open, receptive approach to design feedback and team collaboration.
  • Comfortable working on Mac OS and familiar with standard workplace software (Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, basic WordPress/web management tools).

  • Photography and/or videography experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging print materials including brochures, event program booklets, mailers, flyers, banners, apparel, and large-format signage from concept to print-ready delivery.
  • Design digital assets for social media, email campaigns, web pages, and digital displays.
  • Help lay out and produce the quarterly magazine, working closely with the marketing team to ensure a polished final print and digital publication.
  • Ensure all visual assets reflect brand guidelines, maintaining consistency, quality, and a cohesive look across departments.
  • Work directly with program leads and the marketing team to brainstorm concepts, take project briefs, and turn requests into visual work.
  • Prepare print-ready artwork, select paper stocks/specs, and coordinate with print vendors to ensure projects are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Keep the digital asset library (logos, photos, templates, fonts, and finished files) well-organized and easily accessible for the team.
  • Provide supplemental photography coverage for events, programs, marketing initiatives, and social media campaigns when needed.
