About The Position

The Graphic Design Intern works in the Marketing Department and is primarily stationed at Lake Terrace Convention Center, with travel to Hattiesburg Convention Commission facilities, including the Saenger Theater, African American Military History Museum, Eureka School Museum, and Hattiesburg Zoo. The internship involves creating visual branding and design work across websites, advertising, print publications, magazines, posters, exhibitions, displays, and other media. It is part-time, generally Monday through Friday, for approximately 24 hours per week; nights, weekends, and holidays may be required. The position reports to the Creative & Social Media Supervisor.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in graphic design, graphic art, advertising, or a similar discipline.
• Maintain a valid driver's license and meet eligibility requirements to drive while conducting company business.
• Have transportation for required travel.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm for design and creativity.
• Be flexible when working with a team.
• Have excellent communication skills.
• Have attention to detail.
• Be open to feedback and revisions.
• Have working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.

Responsibilities

• Meet with the Director of Marketing to discuss project-specific marketing objectives and goals.
• Think creatively to develop new ideas and concepts.
• Present finalized ideas to the supervisor and/or facility managers.
• Proofread finalized work for accuracy.
• Demonstrate ideas through sketches or layouts.
• Work with photography and vector illustration.
• Collaborate with printers, copywriters, photographers, social media specialists, the public relations coordinator, other designers, and web designers.
• Perform other duties, functions, and special projects as assigned by the Director, including running errands when needed; travel may be required.
