Summary HII is seeking a highly motivated and creative Graphic Artist / Designer to support the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Energy Academic Group in Monterey, California. The selected candidate will provide advanced visual communication, graphic design, multimedia production, and digital content development support for academic, research, operational energy, and strategic communication initiatives supporting Department of Defense stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong creative design capabilities combined with technical proficiency in multimedia production, branding systems, instructional content development, and user experience design. This role requires the ability to transform complex technical and operational concepts into visually compelling products that support education, research, outreach, and executive-level communications. This part-time hybrid positoin will average 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • 10 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, including: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Acrobat Pro
  • Experience with UX/UI design principles and web content development.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating publication design, branding, multimedia, and digital communication products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, layout accuracy, typography, and production quality control.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, Navy, or federal government organizations.
  • Familiarity with instructional systems design and e-learning development tools.
  • Experience with motion graphics, animation, and video editing workflows.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508 compliance).
  • Experience supporting strategic communications, operational energy initiatives, or academic institutions.
  • Familiarity with collaborative design and project management environments.
  • Current or active DoD clearance

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality visual and graphic design products for academic, research, training, and operational energy initiatives.
  • Design and produce publications, reports, executive briefings, infographics, posters, brochures, and digital communications materials.
  • Create and maintain branding and visual identity systems aligned with organizational objectives and DoD communication standards.
  • Support UX/UI design and web content development for digital platforms and online learning environments.
  • Design instructional graphics and e-learning visual assets supporting courseware and training delivery.
  • Produce motion graphics, animations, multimedia presentations, and video content utilizing industry-standard software tools.
  • Collaborate with faculty, researchers, government stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to develop communication products supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews, print preflight validation, and final production preparation for both digital and printed materials.
  • Ensure all deliverables maintain consistency, accessibility, professionalism, and visual quality standards.
  • Support marketing, outreach, and communications campaigns associated with NPS Energy Academic Group programs and events.
