About The Position

The Sport, Tourism and Recreation (STAR) Division leads programming for the department. The Division is comprised of the Assistant Deputy Minister's office; the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (SPAR) Branch; the Tourism Policy and Strategy Branch, and the All-Season Resorts Branch. The STAR Division collaborates with many Government of Alberta Ministries and with a broad range of tourism, sport, physical activity and recreation stakeholders. In modeling the Alberta Public Service Values, the Grants Analyst has an essential role in collaborating with the SPAR branch, other teams within the division, as well as other ministries and stakeholders to obtain organizational goals. Requirements

  • University degree in Public Administration, Business, Social Sciences or related, PLUS 2 years related experience or equivalent as described.
  • Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 4 years of experience.
  • Related minimum 6 years of experience.
  • Strong writing skills, including high level business writing and experience developing briefing notes, decision documents, and public facing communication materials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders or the public to share information, solve problems, or provide subject matter guidance.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret program data/results.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) and ARTS, with exceptional attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Government of Alberta grant processes and approval procedures.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation and/or policies related to sport.
  • Understanding of information management requirements related to the Access to Information Act and the Protection of Privacy Act.
  • Understanding of the sport, physical activity and recreation sector in Alberta and nationally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support grant application reviews and assessments.
  • Provide program and technical support to stakeholders.
  • Lead and support area research, analysis of grant program data/results, performance measurement, and reporting.
  • Ensure the Director, Policy and Grants and Manager, Grants and Operations are supported in achieving the mandate and goals of the Division and Ministry.
  • Contribute and support the review and assessment of grant applications, provide feedback and recommendations, and support continuous improvements of grant application and assessment processes.
  • Lead and support the delivery of multiple grant programs and be responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting on data/results across these programs.
  • Work within the team to lead and support the implementation of recommendations for continuous program improvements.
  • Provide a wide range of services including leading and/or supporting the provision of advice, research, analysis, and recommendations.
