About The Position

The Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA) is seeking to fill its Grants Program Manager position. This position administers assigned VCA grant programs and the Touring and Teaching Artist Rosters. The position oversees application, review, award, monitoring, and closeout activities; coordinates advisory panels and roster screening sessions; provides technical assistance to applicants, grantees, and artists; and develops resources and professional development opportunities that strengthen participation in VCA programs. The Grants Program Manager also prepares program communications and materials for Commission consideration, supports outreach and external partnerships, and contributes to agency-wide initiatives. The position reports directly to the Senior Grants Officer and collaborates closely with all VCA staff.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in the arts and coordinating functions, especially in art-related grant making activity.
  • Knowledge of the arts (including visual and performing) and of arts practices on a regional level.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of office practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to take minutes and prepare and compile reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and perform a wide variety of administrative assignments and to effectively coordinate office activities.
  • Proficiency with Zoom and grant-management systems.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite and database software.
  • Effective public-speaking skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain successful artist partnerships.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an arts organization, nonprofit organization, or public agency is a plus.
