About The Position

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) is seeking a Grants Analyst I or II to join their team. CHS is a research-intensive academic unit within the University of Delaware, known for its significant research productivity and diverse student and faculty population. The college manages substantial annual research expenditures and houses numerous large, interdisciplinary grants funded by federal and foundation sponsors. The Grants Analyst II role involves comprehensive financial management of sponsored research portfolios, including proposal and budget development, post-award activities like account setup, expense tracking, and reporting. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities and serves as a primary resource for faculty and staff on all sponsored project-related matters, ensuring compliance and efficient financial operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in academic research administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in federal, state, and foundation budget preparation, contract/grant management, and financial/budget planning in an academic setting.
  • Proficient in advanced spreadsheet, database, financial management systems, and relational databases.
  • Ability to analyze budgetary expenditures for sponsor and institutional compliance, and quantify/illustrate complex reports and projections.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and apply guidelines/procedures, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Service-oriented approach to sponsored projects management with person/team-management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Grants processing software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage sponsored project portfolios from pre-award to post-award, including proposal development, budget management, annual reporting, and sponsor compliance with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare financial reports, analyze budget variances, and support project financial activities, including monthly reports and budget changes.
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty on sponsored research financial and budgetary activities, and conduct transfer of sponsored projects for new faculty.
  • Assist with training and mentoring of new Grants Analyst I.
  • Develop and implement policies to improve budget processes and ensure timely closeout of grants and contracts.
