About The Position

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) is seeking a Grants Analyst I or II to join their team. CHS is a research-intensive academic unit within the University of Delaware, known for its significant research productivity and numerous academic programs. The college manages substantial research expenditures, including large grants from federal and foundation sponsors. The Grants Analyst II role involves comprehensive financial management of sponsored research portfolios, from proposal development and budget management to post-award activities like account setup, expense tracking, and reporting. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities and serves as a key resource for faculty and staff on all sponsored project-related matters. The Grants Analyst I role operates under general direction, focusing on accurate grant submissions, budget verification, and compliance, while the Grants Analyst II operates with minimal direction and supervision, taking on policy development and mentoring responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in academic research administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in federal, state, and foundation budget preparation, contract/grant management, and financial/budget planning in an academic setting.
  • Proficient in advanced spreadsheet, database, financial management systems, and relational databases.
  • Ability to analyze budgetary expenditures for sponsor and institutional compliance, and quantify/illustrate complex reports and projections.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and apply guidelines/procedures, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Service-oriented approach to sponsored projects management with person/team-management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.

  • Bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) (Grants Analyst I).
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and foundation budget preparation within an academic setting is required (Grants Analyst II).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Grants processing software preferred.
  • A degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred (Grants Analyst I).

Responsibilities

  • Manage sponsored project portfolios from pre-award to post-award, including proposal development, budget management, annual reporting and sponsor compliance.
  • Prepare financial reports, analyze budget variances, and support project financial activities, including monthly reports and budget changes.
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty on sponsored research financial and budgetary activities.
  • Conduct transfer of sponsored projects for new faculty.
  • Assist with training and mentoring of new Grants Analyst I.
  • Develop and implement policies to improve budget processes and ensure timely closeout of grants and contracts.

  • Focus on accurate and timely grant submissions, budget verification, and compliance with University policies (Grants Analyst I).
  • Resolve a wide variety of intricate problems at the user level and provide support for the development of strategic initiatives (Grants Analyst I).
  • Act as a liaison for matters pertaining to contracts and grants and provide assistance and support to the Grants Manager and/or Grants Analyst II on special tasks (Grants Analyst I).
  • Manage portfolios from pre-award to post-award (Grants Analyst II).
  • Support faculty on complex tasks requiring excellent problem-solving skills (Grants Analyst II).
  • Develop and implement policies to improve overall budget processes (Grants Analyst II).
  • Train and mentor new Grants Analyst I staff (Grants Analyst II).
