About The Position

The Soulful Forest, Inc., a Connecticut 501(c)(3) nonprofit, brings nature, music, and Social-Emotional Learning together in schools and healthcare facilities. The Grant Writing Intern II helps secure grant funding to bring the organization’s programs to more communities. The intern researches funding opportunities, prepares and supports grant applications, maintains grant records, and assists with funder communications and reusable application materials. Intern II applicants meet the required qualifications plus related coursework or prior grant writing or research experience, and draft full letters of inquiry and grant narratives independently.

Requirements

Current Post University student with a Federal Work-Study award.
Excellent research and writing skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
For Intern II: related coursework or prior grant writing or research experience, in addition to the required qualifications.
For Intern II: ability to draft full letters of inquiry and narratives independently.

Nice To Haves

Coursework in nonprofit management, English, communications, public administration, education, or psychology.
Prior grant writing or research experience.
Familiarity with Google Workspace and online grant portals.

Responsibilities

Research foundation, corporate, and government grants aligned with the organization’s mission in schools, children’s mental health, and caregiver wellness.
Build and maintain a grant calendar tracking deadlines, requirements, and application status.
Draft letters of inquiry, grant narratives, program descriptions, and budget justifications.
Gather supporting materials such as program outcomes, photos, letters of support, and organizational documents for applications.
Prepare grant reports and thank-you letters for funders.
Help build a reusable library of grant language.
