About The Position

Under the supervision of the Policy Compliance Officer, the Grant Coordinator leads a comprehensive grant program for the Kansas Judicial Branch. This role is responsible for identifying and securing funding opportunities for innovative programs that align with the Mission and Vision of the Kansas Judicial Branch. The Grant Coordinator prepares and consults on grants and contract proposals, manages grant administration, seeks out and evaluates grant proposals, and reviews reimbursement requests. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local policies and procedures, acting as the primary point of contact for all grant applications and awards. The role requires maintaining financial accountability and compliance through audits, financial records, expenditure reviews, and monitoring documented program outcomes. Some overnight travel is required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with major-course work in business, finance, or accounting, or a related field.
  • Three years of responsible professional experience in management or administration.
  • Considerable knowledge of the judicial and legislative processes and of state and local government structures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and administer statewide programs and projects.
  • Prior experience with federal grants.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong computer competence, including knowledge of programs contained in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently but also collaboratively with stakeholders, other court staff, and members of the court.

  • Experience in grant management or project management work may be substituted for educational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Seek out and apply for grants that support and help fulfill the mission of the courts.
  • Collaborate with court staff throughout the state to find new grants, review grant proposals, fulfill current grant requirements, and close out grants.
  • Monitor awarded grants and create, analyze, and accurately provide necessary reporting data and information.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for court staff managing grant funded programs.
  • Ensure grant funds are being spent appropriately and within policy.
  • Interpret complex federal and state guidelines related to grant management.
  • Use independent judgment in reviewing grant applications.
  • Develop policies and procedures for effective grant management and to identify the priority of program funding.
  • Supervision of any grant program staff.
  • Develop internal controls for grant funds that align with federal and state statutes, regulations, court rules and guidelines, policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
