About The Position

The Grants Accountant-Foundation (NE) plays a key role in managing the financial integrity of our grant-funded programs. This position is responsible for providing leadership, oversight and guidance for grants, including budgeting, tracking, compliance and reporting. Working closely with program managers and the finance team, the Senior Accountant ensures that all grant expenditures are accurately recorded, aligned with funder guidelines, and reported in a timely manner. This role also supports broader accounting functions such as monthly close, financial analysis, and audit preparation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and brings deep knowledge of accounting principles and grant compliance regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelors or 4 years' work related experience
  • Accounting, Business or Finance
  • 2 years in Non-Profit (Healthcare Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial aspects of multiple grants including budget development, expense tracking, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and private grant regulations (including Single Audit guidance and grant-specific rules).
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant invoices and financial reports to funders.
  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and funding timelines.
  • Maintain detailed grant files, supporting documentation and audit-ready records.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts related to grant activity and restricted funds.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper allocation and recording of grant-related transactions.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly fund balance reports to the system stakeholders in accordance with reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Ensure reports clearly reflect the balance of the donor funds, with increases for new donations, and investment gains, decreases for fund usage and investment losses.
  • Collaborate with program managers and development teams to provide financial data needed for narrative and performance reporting.
  • Respond to questions or requests related to financial reports, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and timely communication.
  • Prepare all schedules and reporting for annual financial audit and any other reporting requirements as arise or are deemed necessary.
  • Formulate policies and procedures.
  • Direct and coordinate internal procedures associated with tracking and reporting of restricted funds received.
  • Implement and maintain processes and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
