About The Position

Boeing is seeking PhD students for its exclusive Graduate Researcher Program (GRP) in Engineering & Technology Innovation (E&TI) during the Summer of 2027. E&TI is Boeing's global research and development team focused on innovative technologies for the future of aerospace. The GRP is a 10-12 week internship program designed for PhD students, offering a hybrid experience of real-world industry work and development programming. The program aims to deeply connect students to their teams and Boeing, with the goal of offering a full-time position upon completion of academic studies if a mutual fit is achieved. GRP host teams post intern requisitions aligned with Boeing’s strategic needs. The program provides interns with meaningful, hands-on experience, allowing them to apply academic expertise to real-world industry challenges. In addition to work experience, students participate in GRP programming, including mentorship, Featured Speaker Talks, an in-person GRP Summit, an Innovation Challenge, and networking opportunities with peers, team members, and leadership. The work performed at Boeing can be related to the student's area of study but cannot contribute to their PhD thesis.

Requirements

  • Completed the first year of PhD studies by July 2027
  • Pursuing a PhD in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field of study
  • Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2027
  • Experience in development of aerodynamic analysis and optimization tools and processes with the goal of increasing fidelity while reducing cycle time and cost.
  • Experience with compressible flows and turbulence modeling.
  • Fundamental knowledge of computational fluid dynamics.
  • Background in range of numerical methods appropriate for unstructured grid CFD.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements (U.S. Person status required).

  • Enhancing an internal CFD code to include more time-dependent modeling effects, both in terms of fluids and multi-disciplinary analysis.
  • Increasing the efficiency of the aerodynamic simulation process.
  • Benchmarking current capabilities.
  • Collaboration with both code developers and application engineers.
