About The Position

Applications are welcome for a temporary, half-time, 11-month Graduate Assistant position in the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR), Dean’s Office, Planning and Maintenance Systems (PMSO) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This position is anticipated to begin on 08/17/2026 for an initial one-year appointment, with renewal dependent on satisfactory performance, position need, funding availability, and meeting assistantship eligibility requirements. The position is not remote. The role involves assisting with facility assessment, maintenance, and improvement projects, supporting project planning and coordination, and collaborating with various campus departments and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Classified degree-seeking graduate student in a Masters or Doctoral program (minimum 6 credits) in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or above).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with ability to work as a team with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom or other similar software.
  • Strong organizational skills, including management of data.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google products (e.g., Forms, Docs, Spreadsheet, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, communication, and adaptability skills.
  • Familiarity with modern communication tools and technology and ability to assist others in using them.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing a MA or PhD in topics aligned with the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Architecture Program.
  • A driver’s license valid in the State of Hawaii.
  • Proficiency in the tools and techniques needed for architecture and project management.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Ability to work independently utilizing various softwares and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with facility assessment, maintenance, and improvement projects for CTAHR buildings and research stations.
  • Support project planning, coordination, and documentation activities, including reviewing drawings, specifications, and project scopes.
  • Work collaboratively with campus departments, facilities personnel, consultants, contractors, and the Campus Operations Professional Support (COPS) group to support the successful execution of renovation, repair, and remediation projects.
  • Assist with addressing various operational issues as related to CTAHR building inventory, includes assessing problem areas, analyzing, processing and coordinating remediation.
  • Assist with small remediation projects, work with in-house trades to design and oversee the work.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination of design and construction activities with CTAHR departments including off campus research stations.
  • Assist with the review of designs, drawings, plans, and specifications of projects.
  • Assist with the preparation and/or review of the preparation of designs, specifications, sketches and studies of major and complex buildings and structures for remodeling, alteration or repairs.
  • Execute and manage projects to completion.
  • Assist with the preparation and/or review of cost and quantity estimates for projects.
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of completed appraisal of buildings and other structures.
  • Coordinates project scoping with the Campus Operations Professional Support (COPS) group on design and technical review on all projects.
  • Perform research, data analysis, and other project-related duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
