About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. The Public History Program at American University is seeking applications for a Public History Program Administrative Assistant for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. Reporting to the Senior Administrative Assistant in the Department of History and working closely with the Public History Program Director, the Administrative Assistant will play a key role in supporting the program’s operations, communications, and events.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be a current MA student enrolled at American University.
  • The Administrative Assistant will work fifteen hours per week over the fall and spring semesters (approximately 30 weeks total) and earn $20.00 per hour.
  • The hours are flexible during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM).

  • Strong communication and administrative skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining website content for Public History Program.
  • Managing the program’s social media channels.
  • Supporting Public History Committee meetings.
  • Updating alumni contact information.
  • Communicating with and meeting prospective students.
  • Assisting with planning and supporting program events, workshops, and activities.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
