About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. Most student positions at American University are eligible to use Federal Work Study (FWS) awards, with a few exceptions. FWS funds cannot be applied to janitorial, construction, partisan or sectarian positions. The Student Accountability and Restorative Practices office administers the student disciplinary system, which resolves alleged violations of the Student Conduct Code by a student or a student organization. The Graduate Assistant will provide administrative support to the OSARP staff including managing compliance mandates involving Off Campus Orientation and Empower AU. The Graduate Assistant will conduct disciplinary conferences, restorative conversations and restorative conferences as assigned. The Graduate Assistant will be assigned special projects to further the mission of the office.

Requirements

• Enrolled student at American University.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• 2 - 4 years of relevant experience.

• Skill using email, word processing, spreadsheet/ data analysis and presentation development software applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint while preparing briefings, reports, and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Administers the disciplinary process for the university’s non-academic alleged violations.
• Serves as a conference officer, including communicating with students, parents, and other third parties by educating them about procedures and processes as well as policies.
• Ensures due process and fairness of sanctions, and upholds all university policies and laws regarding confidentiality and student privacy.
• Writes and reviews decision letters for consistency, format, and accuracy and consults with director regarding any case specific questions.
• Completes discipline/background checks when proper authorization is provided and maintains the highest levels of confidentiality according to university regulations and federal law.
• Assists with the management of sanction compliance, assessment, and other administrative tasks as needed.
• Manages the office’s compliance process for Empower AU and Off Campus Orientation, including managing all correspondence with students during the deferral process.
• Coordinates special projects, programs, and meetings at the direction of the director assists with logistics of special programs such as trainings and outreach sessions.
