About The Position

This position is for enrolled American University graduate students to provide non-content based academic support to undergraduate student-athletes. The role involves working 15-20 hours per week, building experience, growing skills, and contributing to the university community. Most student positions are eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) awards.

Requirements

Currently enrolled American University degree-seeking graduate student.
Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established work deadlines.
Familiarity with academic skills development (time management, study strategies, critical reading skills, etc.).
Familiarity with basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.).
Maintain satisfactory academic progress and a 3.0 GPA throughout your degree program.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of and prior work experience in academic support or education.
Teaching or academic tutoring experience in a one-on-one or group setting.

Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one and small group academic support sessions to a designated caseload of student-athletes, supporting individualized academic plans.
Monitor student-athletes' academic progress during each session.
Maintain detailed session notes in Teamworks, documenting student progress and communicating updates to SASP staff.
Assist student-athletes in developing effective study skills and academic habits (time management, study strategies, critical reading, note-taking, test-taking).
Recommend and assist student-athletes in utilizing campus resources like the Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Math & Stat Lab, and faculty office hours.
Meet weekly with the supervisor (Director, Student-Athlete Support).
Maintain regular communication with SASP staff regarding student-athlete progress.
Provide support on SASP projects as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
