About The Position

UPMC Mercy is seeking graduating nurses from Fall/Winter 2026 to join their Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP). This full-time Professional Staff Nurse position involves rotating through various hospital units to gain diverse experience, with mentorship from experienced nurses and preceptors. The program begins in March 2027 and lasts for 10 months, with potential for early exit to permanent placement. UPMC Mercy is a specialized hospital, featuring Western Pennsylvania's only combined Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center and Comprehensive Burn Center, and is home to a leading Rehabilitation Institute and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Requirements

  • Graduating in Fall/Winter 2026 from nursing school.
  • Must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required prior to program start date.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
  • Basic Life Support
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide care and interact with all ages of patients.
  • Understand the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.

  • Previous participants have had the opportunity to rotate through various units, primarily 10E Neuro/Medical Acute Care, 7F Neuro/Trauma Stepdown and one of our Rehab units.
