About The Position
The Department of Public Health at Rongxiang XU College of Health & Human Services seeks graduate students for a 12-month Graduate Assistant position. This role involves assisting faculty with class instruction and course maintenance. The anticipated appointment dates are Fall 2026 (August 21, 2026 – December 23, 2026) and Spring 2027 (January 21, 2027– May 29, 2027). Students can work up to 20 hours per week during the semester. The specific duties will depend on the assignment area and faculty supervisor's needs.
Requirements
- Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Public Health
- Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program
- Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Public Health in good academic standing
- Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree
- Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students
- Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Satisfactorily completed background check
- Disclosure of any final administrative or judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years (after meeting minimum qualifications and before offer of employment)
- Sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct (for finalists)
Responsibilities
- Provide professional non-teaching assistance to faculty member
- Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to their advanced study
- Assisting with handling/or training other student in the use of equipment or other resources
- Assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials
- Participate in evaluation of students work
- Tutoring students
- Will help manage Canvas
- Recording grades
