About The Position

The Office of Housing & Residence Life and the Office of Student Life at Northampton Community College are committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus community that supports growth both inside and outside the classroom. The Graduate Assistant for Residential & Student Activities (GA-RSA) is a 10-month, live-in position that serves in a dual-capacity role supporting both Residence Life and Student Life initiatives. This position is designed to intentionally bridge residential engagement and campus-wide programming, enhancing collaboration between the two functional areas. The Graduate Assistant will serve in the on-call duty rotation for the residence halls and assist in residential community development. Additionally, this individual will support campus programming efforts including online engagement, evening programs, nontraditional student initiatives, and civic engagement programming. This position reports: To the Director of Residence Life for all residence hall-related responsibilities To the Director of Student Life & Leadership Development for all Student Life related responsibilities. The is a part-time, 10-month live-in position and entails a 20-hour work week. The contract is for one academic year and is renewable based on performance and continued enrollment in a Master’s program. This position includes furnished housing and a meal plan. The hours will be broken up between 2 departments and reviewed upon hire.

Requirements

  • Admission and enrollment in a Master’s program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related fields.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required
  • Ability to live on campus and fulfill on-call responsibilities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Residence Life, Student Activities, or related student engagement areas preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in the professional staff on-call rotation for the residence halls.
  • Be available and visible to residential students in-person and virtually.
  • Assist in fostering a safe, inclusive, and developmentally focused residential community.
  • Support student well-being by responding to concerns and appropriately referring students to campus resources.
  • Serve in the emergency on-call rotation for RA support
  • Follow all duty requirements, such as being on campus (or within five minutes) when on call
  • Properly document incidents and submit incident reports
  • Act as a mandated reporter as required by law
  • Properly utilize access to master keys, student rooms, etc.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of evening programs, online/virtual engagement initiatives, programs designed for non-traditional & commuter students
  • Support campus-wide engagement efforts that increase student participation beyond traditional hours
  • Work with the Director of Student Life & Assistant Director of Student Clubs on the N-gage student engagement platform on promotion and utilization
  • Work with Residence Life to oversee their N-gage page
  • Help monitor engagement data on N-gage and contribute to improving programming outcomes through data and assessment.
  • -Serve as a liaison between Residence Life & Student Life to: Identify collaborative programming and opportunities Reduce scheduling conflicts Increase student participation across departments.
  • -Support student organization initiatives when programming intersects with residential engagement opportunities.
  • Participate in Student Staff and Professional Staff training in August & January.
  • Meet with the Director of Student Life one-on-one each week.
  • Attend bi-weekly professional staff meetings and one-on-one meetings for Residence Life.
  • Participate in other professional development opportunities offered.
