About The Position

The Department of Public Health at California State University San Marcos is seeking applications for Unit 11 Graduate Assistant positions for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. These in-person positions offer opportunities to engage in various public health research projects, including social epidemiology, research on physical functioning and disability among older adults, and the CSUSM Mobile Wellness initiative. Responsibilities may include secondary survey data management and analysis, data visualization, literature reviews, identification of data sources, manuscript preparation, grant writing, and data collection/analysis related to program activities and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a graduate program at CSUSM.
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Ability to relate well to others within the academic environment.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Admission or registration as a CSUSM student.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous research and/or data collection and/or data analysis experience preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis software like SPSS, R, or SAS.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting public health faculty with social epidemiology and community-engaged research projects concerning the relation of sociocultural factors to mental health outcomes in Asian American communities in California.
  • Secondary survey data management and analysis.
  • Data visualization of descriptive and analytic results.
  • Write-ups of research findings.
  • Relevant literature review.
  • Assisting public health faculty with a research project examining physical functioning and disability among older adults.
  • Identification of data sources.
  • Data analysis and management.
  • Manuscript preparation.
  • Assisting public health faculty with their work on the CSUSM Mobile Wellness initiative.
  • Identifying and writing grants to support funding opportunities.
  • Collecting, organizing and performing light analysis on data related to program activities and outcomes.

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $17.86 - $23.84
