About The Position

This is a temporary, part-time (50% FTE) position for a Graduate Assistant in Public Health Field Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The position is for 11 months, with potential for renewal, and is funded by tuition. The role involves supporting the coordination of public health field courses, tracking student placements, assisting with resource development, and performing related tasks. The position is expected to begin in July or as soon as possible thereafter.

Requirements

  • Admitted full-time at the UHM in a graduate-level public health degree program or related field at the time of hire
  • Be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800 (dissertation) or 700F (thesis)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms), and Lamaku (learning course management system)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Responsible, organized, dependable, and efficient

Nice To Haves

  • Earned Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Social Work (MSW) from a college or university of recognized standing
  • Admitted full-time at the UHM in a PhD in public health degree program or related field
  • A year of experience working in the public health community, preferably in Hawai'i
  • Ability to work with units and disciplines outside of public health
  • Experience engaging with community professionals and organizations in Hawai'i, other US jurisdictions, and/or the Asia-Pacific region
  • Experience working with students in a mentoring or counseling capacity
  • Experience working in multi-cultural settings
  • Experience working with students from underrepresented minorities
  • Experience working with Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander students
  • Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others

Responsibilities

  • Support coordination of Public Health field courses, 485, 692, and 791
  • Assist in tracking of field placements for graduate students in public health
  • Assist in tracking of the undergraduate applied learning experience (APLE) placements and students
  • Support students in discussing academic aspirations, progress, and public health practice experiences
  • Support development and maintenance of field office resources for students and/or community members
  • Support development and implementation of field office events for students and/or community members
  • Assist in the evaluation of APLE & practicum protocols
  • Assist with accreditation activities related to practicum and applied learning
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned
