About The Position

The Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences Student Success and Advising Center seeks a motivated and student-focused Graduate Advising Assistant (GAA) to join its academic advising team. This assistantship provides graduate students with meaningful professional experience in academic advising, student success initiatives, enrollment management, and higher education administration. Working alongside professional academic advisors, the Graduate Advising Assistant supports undergraduate students as they navigate their academic journey and contributes to college-wide advising programs that promote student success, retention, and timely degree completion. This position is ideal for graduate students interested in pursuing careers in academic advising, student affairs, enrollment management, higher education administration, counseling, or related fields.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Must be a current or incoming OU Graduate Student and enrolled in the FALL 2026 semester.
  • Must attach Fall 2026 class schedule OR letter of intent for graduate school.

Responsibilities

  • Meet individually with new undergraduate students during advising appointments.
  • Assist students with enrollment questions and procedures.
  • Explain degree requirements, university policies, academic procedures, and graduation requirements.
  • Guide students in using ONE, Degree Navigator, Navigate, and other advising technologies.
  • Assist with degree audits and transfer course evaluations.
  • Document advising interactions accurately.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Maintain FERPA confidentiality.
  • Assist professional advising staff with projects related to advising operations, communication, and student follow-up.
  • Support college-based New Student Orientation, Camp Crimson, Academic Day, Donuts with the Deans, and other recruitment and retention events.
  • Contribute to the coordination of first-year student engagement and outreach efforts, including mid-term academic outreach and success campaigns.
  • Assist with degree audits, transfer evaluations, and advising projects.
  • Maintain accurate advising documentation.
  • Participate in advisor training and staff meetings.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and staff.
  • Develop advising, communication, and problem-solving skills.
