About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students and contributes to the daily operations of the Graduate Advising office. The Graduate Advising Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day office administration, support, and special projects. This is a part-time (15 hours per week), in-person role directly supervised by the Director of Graduate Academic Advising. The incumbent will be largely responsible for managing their own time and prioritizing tasks while meeting the needs of the office.

Requirements

  • Must be an AU graduate student with an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.
  • Two years of relevant experience, preferably in multicultural office settings.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong time-management and demonstrated interpersonal communications skills.
  • Outstanding organizational ability with the ability to proactively problem-solve.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage deadlines with minimal direct supervision.
  • High computer/technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, and especially Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working at AU campus office.
  • Experience in website administration, CMS, and/or HTML.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the front desk in office (in-person and virtual), greeting visitors, answering questions, etc.
  • Manage the shared office email account.
  • Conduct student outreach and communications.
  • Data collection, entry and analysis associated with incoming students, degree clearance, etc.
  • Administer the Graduate Advising website.
  • Manage school-wide listservs, program listservs, and email management system.
