About The Position

The Graduate Admission Counselor at Valparaiso University is a student-focused role that supports the recruitment and enrollment of prospective graduate students. This position serves as a primary point of contact, guiding students through the admissions process while collaborating with faculty and program directors. The counselor engages in outreach through events, communications, and CRM management (Slate) to drive enrollment. This hybrid role includes seasonal travel, requires a valid driver’s license, and may involve occasional evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • A minimum bachelor's degree is required.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Professional, student-centered approach with a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Comfort with technology and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities during peak recruitment periods.
  • Clear results of a thorough background check, which may include criminal history, motor vehicle reports, prior employment verification, personal/professional references, and credit history (if applicable).

Nice To Haves

  • An earned master's degree is preferred.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience in customer service, admissions, student services, or campus involvement is beneficial but not required.
  • Slate or CRM experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary admissions contact for assigned graduate programs, guiding prospective students from inquiry to enrollment.
  • Communicate with prospective students via phone, email, SMS, and virtual platforms to provide support and information.
  • Review applications and collaborate with program directors in the admissions decision process.
  • Represent the university at virtual and in-person recruitment events, including fairs, webinars, and information sessions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support recruitment efforts.
  • Utilize Slate CRM to track student engagement, manage communications, and support outreach strategies.
  • Assist with marketing initiatives and support on-campus recruitment events.
