About The Position

Texas A&M University Health Science Center's College of Nursing Academic Support department is seeking a Graduate Academic Advisor III. This role involves advising graduate students, guiding faculty on university policies, managing student records, developing advising materials, and coordinating events. The position also contributes to the development and evaluation of advising policies, mentors advising staff, and may support student organizations and program coordination. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience in higher education or related fields.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and record-keeping skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate events or activities for graduate students.
  • Understanding of graduate admissions and program operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of academic advising principles and student support.
  • Ability to evaluate and improve program practices.
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Advises graduate students on programmatic requirements and academic processes.
  • Collaborates with students to establish realistic goals, provides outreach, communicates important dates and deadlines, and offers necessary resources.
  • Manages the accurate documentation of graduate students and their academic progress.
  • Develops and maintains advising materials and resources for students.
  • Coordinates advising events and programs.
  • Assists in developing and implementing advising policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates and improves advising practices based on department and student feedback and program outcomes.
  • Provides guidance to faculty on university processes and policies for graduate programs.
  • Mentors and trains graduate advising staff.
