About The Position

The University of Arkansas is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide direct assistance for the Bumpers College Waldrip Student Center. This role involves utilizing Workday and EAB retention tools to advise students, track their progress, schedule appointments, document meetings, and manage communications efficiently. The advisor will focus on ensuring student completion, retention, and timely registration, providing high-quality, student-focused interactions for a caseload of approximately 400 students. Specific support will be given to probationary and at-risk students. The advisor will collaborate with college partners to understand curriculum and career opportunities, participate in advising team meetings and training events, and assist with New Student Orientation. There is also an opportunity to teach UNIV 10051 University Perspectives. Collaboration with other Student Services personnel is key to ensuring a cohesive delivery of recruitment, scholarship, student records, career development, and other services that promote student success. Regular, reliable attendance and the ability to maintain positive working relationships are essential job duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years’ experience in a higher education setting advising, counseling, or academic coaching.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Human Environmental Science, Education or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, education, or related area from an accredited institution.
  • Competence and experience with Workday, PowerPoint, Peoplesoft, Blackboard, Microsoft Teams, and EAB retention tools.
  • Teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Background and experience in agriculture, human environmental sciences, or related field.
  • Knowledge of student development theory.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in person and over the phone and through electronic communications.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and think creatively with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, workspace, and work discreetly with confidential records and information.
  • Ability to assess own professional development and identify desired areas of growth.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with students, parents, faculty, staff, and college administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in advising team meetings and college/university training events.
  • Assist with New Student Orientation.
  • Potentially teach UNIV 10051 University Perspectives.
  • Collaborate with other Student Services personnel to ensure understanding and continuous delivery of recruitment, scholarships, student records, career development, and other services promoting student success.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance.
