About The Position

The Grade 6-12 STEM Coordinator at Bellingham High School and Bellingham Memorial School facilitates the development, evaluation, organization, and implementation of secondary assessment, curriculum, and instructional programs in math and science. This role ensures all students meet or exceed state standards, fosters common understandings and practices in math and science, and collaborates with academic coordinators and lead teachers. The coordinator promotes high standards, analyzes student achievement data to identify needs and implement interventions, and develops professional development for teachers to support evidence-based, differentiated practices. They also demonstrate model lessons, assist teachers in developing differentiated units, and plan department meetings and PLCs. Additionally, this role assists with hiring math and science teachers, stays current with research in math and science curriculum and instruction, and uses coaching approaches to enhance technology-enhanced learning experiences. Collaboration with administrators and teachers on digital tools, budget requests, and communication with students and parents regarding math/science matters are also key responsibilities. The position may also serve as the district PLTW site coordinator and execute other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Building Principals.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching math and/or science at the secondary level.
  • Possess leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and consultants.
  • Understand standards-based curriculum development, best practices, program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, valid assessments and diagnosis and research related to learning.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the MA State Frameworks in the areas of math and science.

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a master’s degree in education with specific coursework in math, science and/or engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the development, evaluation, organization, and implementation of secondary assessment, curriculum, and instructional programs in math and science.
  • Communicates and works collaboratively with the leadership team to nurture common understandings and practices in math and science.
  • Works closely with the Science and Math Academic Coordinators and Lead Teachers to oversee materials, processes, etc at the middle school and high school levels.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning with curriculum planning and revision.
  • Promotes high standards and expectations for students and staff for creating a strong math and science learning environment and academic performance.
  • Identifies valid and reliable data sources on student achievement (including but not limited to MCAS), analyzes the data to determine needs, strengths and weaknesses including benchmark assessments and interventions to raise student achievement.
  • Communicates curriculum and data trends to impact practice with all district stakeholders.
  • Develops, plans and implements professional development for teachers that supports evidence-based, differentiated practices within the areas of math and science.
  • Demonstrates model lessons supporting district curriculum and initiatives.
  • Facilitates and assists teachers in developing units based on state standards that offer differentiation to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Works cooperatively with other curriculum coordinators to meet district goals.
  • Plans Math and/or Science department meetings and PLCs, as needed.
  • Assists with hiring of Math and Science teachers, as needed.
  • Keeps abreast of current valid research and methodology related to curriculum and instruction in Math and Science content areas and disseminates professional information and materials to staff.
  • Uses consistent and strategic coaching approaches when collaborating with teachers to design and implement high quality, technology-enhanced learning experience for all students.
  • Collaborates with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources that enhance teaching and learning.
  • Develops budget requests for Assistant Superintendent's consideration.
  • Communicates, as needed, with students and parents/families regarding matters pertaining to math/science content, courses, etc. that are beyond the scope of the teacher.
  • Acts as district PLTW site coordinator, as applicable.
  • Executes other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Building Principals.
