About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking a qualified teacher to develop and deliver an early Mi'kmaw language program for Grades 4-8, incorporating cultural teachings and traditional protocols. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year, with an effective date of August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established on April 1, 2018, to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. With approximately 1,166 employees, the SRCE operates 20 schools and pre-primary programs, serving around 5,948 students in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, encompassing the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond.

Requirements

  • Valid teacher certification for the Province of Nova Scotia
  • Classroom experience teaching Mi'kmaw language
  • Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition
  • Excellent classroom and student management skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning
  • Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies
  • Proficient knowledge of Mi'kmaw history, with an understanding of culture, traditions, ceremonies, principles, and values
  • Proficient in Mi'kmaw language - both oral and written
  • Mi'kmaw descent
  • Application must include at least three (3) work-related references, one must be your most recent supervisor
  • Provide a current (within the last 6 months), and clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry prior to employment
