About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified individuals to fill a Term Gr. 4-8 Mi'kmaw Language and Gr. 7-8 Health Teacher position. This role involves developing and delivering an early Mi'kmaw language program for Grades 4-8, incorporating cultural teachings and traditional protocols. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students and serves a large geographical area in northeastern Nova Scotia.

Requirements

  • Valid teacher certification for the Province of Nova Scotia
  • Classroom experience teaching Mi'kmaw language
  • Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition
  • Excellent classroom and student management skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning
  • Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies
  • Proficient knowledge of Mi'kmaw history, with an understanding of culture, traditions, ceremonies, principles, and values
  • Proficient in Mi'kmaw language - both oral and written
  • Mi'kmaw descent
  • Must provide at least three (3) work-related references, one of which must be your most recent supervisor.
  • Must provide a current (within the last 6 months), and clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver an early Mi'kmaw language program focusing on Grades 4-8
  • Incorporate cultural teachings and traditional protocols into program delivery.
