About The Position

This role involves interpreting construction plans and specifications to ensure accurate job execution. The position requires the use of RTK GPS equipment for topographic surveys, field layout, staking, and machine control verification. Responsibilities include loading site models, calibrating equipment with operators, troubleshooting issues related to materials and GPS operations, and monitoring production with colleagues and management. The role also includes general labor and equipment operation as needed. Work is primarily outdoors on active construction sites, potentially with extended hours during peak seasons, and may involve occasional local travel.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Aptitude for math and problem solving.
  • Must be detail and safety oriented.
  • Ability to provide and maintain driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Requires kneeling, climbing, walking, twisting and general labor work.

Nice To Haves

  • Entry-level candidates with strong math skills and construction aptitude will be considered and trained.
  • 2+ years of experience grade checking, staking, and surveying using Topcon GPS systems preferred.
  • 2+ years working in heavy civil construction including earthwork, paving, and concrete OR a surveying background preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret construction plans and specifications to ensure jobs are built correctly.
  • Interpret survey stakes to determine grades for embankment/excavation.
  • Collect and utilize information with RTK GPS equipment, i.e., topographic surveys, field layout, staking, and machine control verification.
  • Load site models and office data onto machines and work with operators to perform calibrations.
  • Troubleshoot situations and solve problems (material quality/quantity, GPS equipment operation/repair, etc.).
  • Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including general labor and equipment operation.
