About The Position

Alpha Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and action-driven GPS Field Technician to join our growing civil construction team. This role plays a critical function in supporting layout accuracy and project tracking through advanced GPS systems and cutting-edge drone operations. From guiding excavation work to delivering actionable aerial data, you'll help ensure projects move forward on grade, on time, and on spec. This position is uniquely designed for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology and fieldwork. You'll be flying the DJI M300 Survey Drone for 50% to 75% of your time, processing data with tools like Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, and Propeller, and translating aerial models into meaningful site progress insights. If you're hands-on, tech-comfortable, and passionate about precision, this role offers both autonomy and impact.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in civil construction, surveying, or GPS-guided equipment operation.
  • Strong interest or experience in drone technology and aerial mapping.
  • Familiarity with Trimble GPS systems, AutoCAD, and drone survey tools like Propeller.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and work in varied outdoor conditions.
  • Dependable, proactive, and able to work independently and in a team.

Nice To Haves

  • FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot Certificate preferred (or willingness to earn it).
  • Hands-on experience flying DJI M300 or similar drones.
  • Proficiency in Trimble Business Center or similar post-processing software.
  • Exposure to heavy civil layout, utility placement, or concrete work.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification or traffic control (flagger) training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the DJI M300 drone to perform regular aerial surveys, stockpile volumetrics, and site documentation.
  • Process flight data using platforms like Propeller Aero and Trimble Business Center.
  • Upload and manage 3D site models and align with current field conditions.
  • Set up and operate GPS equipment and total stations for excavation, utilities, and concrete layout.
  • Collaborate with operators and foremen to ensure accurate line and grade.
  • Conduct as-built verification and relay layout details in real-time.
  • Perform physical tasks including digging, lifting, and general site preparation.
  • Maintain clear communication and documentation for field records and progress.
  • Adhere to Alpha’s safety and quality standards at all times.
