About The Position

The Contracts Officer is responsible for the preparation, drafting, review, and negotiation of outgoing and incoming agreements, as well as the development, compilation, and submission of proposals for research, public service, and other contracts. This role requires independent assessment of complex grant, contract, and subcontract transactions, involving in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The Officer utilizes advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high-volume, high-complexity transactions and may guide less experienced staff in reviewing financial and administrative management requirements for compliance with institutional and sponsor policies. The position may involve reviewing and signing transactions for junior staff and serving as a technical specialist in specific areas. During award negotiation and proposal development, the Officer will coordinate with faculty and campus offices such as Legal Affairs, Risk Management, Privacy, and Department Managers to obtain input. Responsibilities include interpreting internal guidance, negotiating the inclusion of stakeholder requirements into agreements, and completing all assignments professionally and on time. The Officer is expected to be experienced in research administration and possess the necessary qualifications to sign and approve specified contract and grant agreements in accordance with UC policies and procedures.
