About The Position

This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a golf course. The role involves directing and participating in the construction and maintenance of the grounds, and performing and supervising the technical aspects of a golf course turf management program. This includes detecting, identifying, and treating pests, diseases, and environmental conditions affecting turf quality. The superintendent will also provide technical, operational, and safety training to employees, ensuring compliance with OSHA, club safety, and state/federal guidelines. The role requires performing skilled maintenance and supervisory functions related to turf management, ornamental plant management, irrigation, tournament play conditions, and specialized equipment. Responsibilities include operating and supervising the use of maintenance equipment, assisting in landscape and irrigation design and implementation, and directing staff in planting, pruning, and tending to vegetation. Budgeting for equipment, administering golf course rules, and performing supervisory and record-keeping functions are also key aspects. The role involves ordering materials, supervising chemical applications, managing water usage tracking, and overseeing turf grass and plant material maintenance programs, property-asset management, personnel management, budgeting, guest relations, and regulatory compliance. The superintendent will also manage ornamental plantings and perform manual labor for cleanliness and maintenance. Requirements

  • Thorough working knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of golf course turf science and management.
  • Working knowledge of specialized course equipment, operation, calibration, and maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of staff.
  • Ability to evaluate current facility conditions and make recommendations for improvement or expansion.
  • Ability to keep accurate, detailed records concerning chemical applications and conformance to commercial pesticide applicator regulations.
  • Ability to collect pertinent data and information and prepare reports.
  • Must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License for Turf and Ornamentals.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a recognized college with a degree in Turf Management or a related field.

  • Supervising and participating in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides).
  • Managing a water usage tracking plan and providing monthly reports.
  • Overseeing turf grass and plant material maintenance programs, property-asset management, personnel management, budgeting, guest relations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Performing and supervising the care and maintenance of ornamental plantings.
  • Performing manual labor related to golf course cleanliness, equipment management, and special projects.
