About The Position

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent with management, direction, and leadership of the golf course and grounds operations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or certificate in Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in golf course maintenance with a progressive career track.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication and team building skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Florida Pesticide license (or obtain within 90 days of employment).
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Outside work for extended periods of time and precautions should be taken.
  • Ability to work a schedule that will include some weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules, trains, and supervises all employees assigned to their specific golf course.
  • Maintains course in proper playing condition.
  • Prepares course for tournament play.
  • Supervises all planting, fertilizing, and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and other facilities on the golf course.
  • Ensures that maintenance equipment is properly operating and reporting issues appropriately to the Equipment Manager.
  • Observes daily playing conditions including mowing quality, green speeds, bunker conditions, course setup, and soil moisture.
  • Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
  • Implements and enforces a comprehensive safety program in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Communicates as necessary with other departments to discuss conditions of the facilities, maintenance plans, and scheduled events.
  • Ensures that chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Maintains required records and actively seeks to minimize the use of these products.
  • Attends staff and management meetings, turf conferences, workshops, and other educational programs to maintain a current knowledge of technical and turf innovations and changes that may affect the department’s operations.
  • Develops staff and fosters an environment where employees are working in the best and most efficient ways possible to achieve department goals.
  • Performs golf course maintenance tasks as assigned by Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Golf Course Maintenance, and other tasks as directed.
