About The Position

Oakland County Parks is hiring Golf Course Grounds Workers to keep the Lyon Oaks Golf Course looking top notch through the fall. This position performs routine, manual and/or clerical customer service duties, assisting higher level employees involved in the general maintenance and operations of the golf course. The role involves operating groundskeeping equipment, performing groundskeeping or building maintenance tasks, and moving facility and recreation equipment. The position may also involve performing duties of other part-time seasonal employees to meet staffing needs and requires adherence to proper work procedures and safety practices. Shifts may include day, afternoon, or midnight, during weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays. The role utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Requirements

  • Must have passed their 18th birthday OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate or the State requirements for a G.E.D. certificate; OR be an emancipated minor.
  • Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
  • Reasonable knowledge of customer service interactions and ability to communicate with others.
  • Some knowledge of the use of elementary hand and power tools.
  • Reasonable knowledge of and ability to practice standard safety techniques.
  • Reasonable ability to perform routine, repetitive, and/or manual tasks, maintain personal cleanliness and a presentable public appearance.
  • Reasonable ability to follow standardized oral and written instructions, and work and cooperate in a team effort, when necessary, to successfully complete an assignment.
  • Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.
  • Ability to operate equipment as assigned to complete work duties including but not limited to computers, phones, hand tools, power tools such as weedwhips, blowers, snow throwers, motorized grounds keeping tractors and ride on mowers, golf carts, or other maintenance vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • When assigned to Golf Course Pro Shop, Grill rooms or Beverage Cart, must have passed their 18th birthday, per the State of Michigan, due to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
  • Out of country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Operate groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, or equipment and vehicles for grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Perform groundskeeping or building maintenance tasks to maintain park properties, rental facilities, and landscaping.
  • Move facility and recreation equipment such as picnic tables, trash cans, folding tables and chairs, golf carts, etc.
  • Operate and carry maintenance equipment such as rakes, shovels, trimmers, commercial blowers, etc.
  • Perform grooming and cleaning of parks and related facilities.
  • Patrol park areas and provide information and assistance to park users.
  • Perform duties of other part-time seasonal employees in various classes when necessary to meet staffing needs.
  • Perform golf course mowing using power equipment, bunker maintenance, trash removal, tree maintenance including planting, pruning and line trimming, and custodial services in restrooms and public areas.
  • Assist with cart staging and cleaning when lower-level staff are not available.
  • Assist with repair and installation of irrigation equipment on golf courses or start up and shut down of golf course irrigation systems on a yearly basis.
  • Answer public inquiries regarding other County parks.
