About The Position

Oakland County Parks is hiring Golf Course Grounds Workers to keep the course looking top-notch through the fall. This position performs routine, manual and/or clerical customer service duties, assisting higher level employees involved in the general maintenance and operations of Lyon Oaks Golf Course. Responsibilities include operating groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, and vehicles for grounds maintenance tasks. Tasks may include groundskeeping or building maintenance to maintain park properties, rental facilities, and landscaping. The role involves moving facility and recreation equipment, operating maintenance equipment like rakes, shovels, trimmers, and commercial blowers. Duties may also include grooming and cleaning of parks and related facilities, patrolling park areas, and providing information and assistance to park users. The position may also be responsible for performing the duties of other part-time seasonal employees and ensuring proper work procedures and safety practices. Work may be assigned to day, afternoon, or midnight shifts, during weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Requirements

  • Must have passed their 18th birthday OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate or the State requirements for a G.E.D. certificate; OR be an emancipated minor.
  • Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
  • Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.

Responsibilities

  • Operate groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, and vehicles for grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Perform groundskeeping or building maintenance tasks to maintain park properties, rental facilities, and landscaping.
  • Move facility and recreation equipment such as picnic tables, trash cans, folding tables and chairs, golf carts, etc.
  • Operate and carry maintenance equipment such as rakes, shovels, trimmers, commercial blowers, etc.
  • Perform grooming and cleaning of parks and related facilities.
  • Patrol park areas.
  • Provide information and assistance to park users.
  • Perform duties of other part-time seasonal employees when necessary.
  • Ensure proper work procedures and safety practices.
  • Perform golf course mowing using power equipment, bunker maintenance, trash removal, tree maintenance including planting, pruning and line trimming, and custodial services in restrooms and public areas.
  • Assist with cart staging and cleaning when lower-level staff are not available.
  • Assist with repair and installation of irrigation equipment on golf courses or start up and shut down of golf course irrigation systems on a yearly basis.
  • Answer public inquiries regarding other County parks.
