About The Position

The GME Program Manager in the Department of Surgery plays a critical role in the administration and daily operations of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program and select ACGME- and non-ACGME-accredited surgical fellowship programs. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of GME policies, accreditation standards, and best practices specific to surgical training. The incumbent will recommend and implement process improvements in collaboration with program leadership to support educational excellence and compliance. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, managing resident and fellow recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, evaluations, program accreditation documentation, and coordinating educational conferences and events. This position is full time (100%) This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time, professional work experience in an administrative or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex projects with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with faculty, residents/fellows, institutional leadership, and external agencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in graduate medical education or other relevant professional setting.
  • Experience with budget management, recruitment coordination, accreditation site visits, and program evaluation activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance for resident/fellow recruitment, credentialing, and onboarding to maintain compliance with regulatory bodies and hospital policies
  • Collaborates with the Program Director to assess curriculum and evaluations, developing the structure and delivery mechanism, and maintaining accurate records of curriculum, evaluations, and participation
  • May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of accreditation program requirements and related policies, regulatory requirements, and hospital and program policies to provide expert consult to the Program Director to maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory bodies and pertinent policies
  • Responsible for ensuring resident/fellow and program compliance with policy, accreditation, and regulatory requirements and that appropriate documentation is maintained
  • Maintains the resident/fellow and program expenditures. Advises fiscal leadership on program budgetary needs and monitors program expenses within budget constraints
  • Regularly attends monthly program coordinator meetings and GME educational offerings. Collaborates with other colleagues to develop best practices, and serves as an administrative reviewer of other GME programs. Should regularly attend national GME or specialty conference(s)
  • Serves as the primary contact for the program, liaising with those directly associated with the program, the Institutional GME Office, and regulatory agencies.
  • Advises residents/fellows, program staff/faculty of program and institutional policies and procedures
