About The Position

Western Truck Exchange is hiring a GM Automotive Mechanic to diagnose, service, and repair GM vehicles, gas vehicles, passenger cars, and light-duty trucks used by local customers, fleets, and municipalities. This role is best for a technician with real hands-on experience who can diagnose issues accurately, complete quality repairs, and communicate clearly with the service team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of practical experience in automotive inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL is a plus.
  • Proficiency with shop tools and hand tools; ability to supply a basic set of hand tools as applicable by role/level.
  • Basic computer skills for repair documentation, diagnostic systems, and maintenance records.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a professional approach to safety and quality.
  • Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to customer yards and training sites.

Nice To Haves

  • GM automotive repair experience, especially engine performance, driveability, electrical, and diagnostics.
  • Experience with GM scan tools and software such as GM MDI/MDI2, GDS2, or Techline.
  • Experience using modern diagnostic tools and electronic service information.
  • Experience with CAT and Cummins engine diagnostics/repairs is a plus.
  • Experience with Allison transmission maintenance and rebuild-related services is a plus.
  • Experience working on International or Mitsubishi Fuso medium-duty platforms is a plus.
  • Vocational, technical, or OEM certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair GM vehicle systems, including engine performance, driveability, electrical, brakes, suspension, HVAC, and related systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, oil changes, chassis lubrication, and related maintenance services.
  • Inspect vehicles for worn, damaged, unsafe, or failing components and report findings clearly.
  • Diagnose and repair gasoline engines, drivetrain and powertrain components, differentials, transmissions, driveshafts, PTOs, wheel ends, engine bolt-on components, ECMs, ECUs, sensors, instruments, gauges, and related electronics.
  • Use GM diagnostic tools and service information to confirm faults before replacing parts.
  • Road test vehicles as needed to verify customer concerns and completed repairs.
  • Document repair findings, work performed, parts needed, and job status accurately.
  • Support shop quality standards and maintain a clean, safe work area.
