About The Position

This role is responsible for the setup and operation of the folder/gluer machine in accordance with the apprentice training plan and objectives. The apprentice will work with an assigned trainer to achieve proficiency in all objectives, ensuring high-quality packaging and products are produced at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards and production goals. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize software.
  • Mechanical ability and skills.
  • Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. in English.
  • Ability to write legibly in English.
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the machine in a safe manner and notifies supervision of any unsafe conditions.
  • Receives instruction from trainer and performs duties to become proficient in learning objectives and milestones outlined in the apprenticeship training plan.
  • Operates machine safely and consistently, maintaining standard operating procedures.
  • Advises Supervisor or trainer on the performance of the production run and/or machine crew.
  • Learns to safely start up and stop the machine and make adjustments to maintain production and quality standards within target speeds.
  • Learns procedures to set up jobs on the machine to precise measurements and alignments following the training plan within allotted time.
  • Reviews previous shift's report at the beginning of each shift to determine the status of the run, issues with a job or equipment, and schedule information.
  • Logs productivity and provides comments for each production job in the manufacturing computer system.
  • Accurately completes production reports and records production data.
  • Sets up and uses various scanners as needed.
  • Performs all quality checks and procedures, ensuring product quality meets all standards and customer specifications regarding folding, gluing, packaging, labeling, and stacking, including scrap defects.
  • Notifies Trainer or Supervisor of any discrepancies or areas of concern.
  • Observes feeder packers to ensure proper count and adherence to customer specifications.
  • Assists with providing instruction and guides activities of feeder packers when necessary.
  • Learns to troubleshoot, diagnose, and assist in the repair of machine malfunctions.
  • Reviews and understands all preventative maintenance responsibilities of an operator.
  • Learns proper procedures for routine cleaning and maintenance.
  • Ensures that finished products with defects are properly scrapped and discarded.
  • Communicates well with other team members.
  • Actively seeks improvements and updates to processes, new procedures, and innovations that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
  • Welcomes updates and improvements to processes and follows new procedures and innovations.
  • Performs work in a manner that keeps downtime to a minimum.
  • Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems.
  • Follows all safety-related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines.
  • Uses situational awareness and actively looks for weak signals to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Consistently wears appropriate PPE for the task at hand and within the assigned area.
  • May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments.
