About The Position

Booz Allen is seeking a Government Relations Sector Leader supporting our Global Defense business and Defense Technology portfolio. The individual will be the external spokesperson and internal proponent of a multi-year government relations strategy to help grow the company's Global Defense business by achieving measurable outcomes and building relationships with key stakeholders. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of the military services and national security policy, along with an understanding of how to navigate an evolving landscape in defense acquisition and defense technology. We need a collaborative leader committed to excellence in government relations who values their role in fostering a high-performing government relations function. The successful candidate will embrace teamwork and thrive in a collaborative environment. Given the ongoing evolution of our business and the national security environment, the role will require intellectual curiosity, strong business acumen, continuous learning, sound judgment, and a willingness to engage differing perspectives.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in government relations or defense policy
  • Experience with military modernization policy, the federal budget, and the defense authorization and appropriations process
  • Experience working with Congress and the legislative process, particularly with the House and Senate Armed Services Committees, navigating the annual defense authorization cycle, and advancing outcomes within the appropriations process
  • Knowledge of the defense acquisition process including the evolving policy space around commercial buying practices, FAR reform, dual-use technologies, and OTAs
  • Knowledge of the national security community and the interagency process
  • Ability to build and sustain long-term relationships with policymakers, build internal consensus on policy positions, and translate that consensus into external advocacy aligned with business strategy
  • Ability to represent the company externally with credibility, professionalism, and integrity
  • Ability to serve as a registered lobbyist on behalf of the company
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience serving in defense policy focused roles on Capitol Hill or another national security focused federal agency
  • Experience with a defense contractor, technology company, trade association, or government relations guidance
  • Ability to navigate a complex corporate environment and to align government relations strategy to business goals
  • Possession of excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, along with proficiency in digital collaboration platforms and generative AI tools
  • Possession of strong political judgment and discretion

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the company's government relations strategy for defense policy, military modernization, and defense tech.
  • Lead our annual strategy to ensure the company is shaping key issues in the defense authorization cycle and the defense appropriations process.
  • Build and sustain a strong network of relationships with defense policymakers in Congress and the Executive Branch, involving senior executives to advance goals.
  • Serve as the principal Government Relations advisor to our Defense business leadership, providing sound political counsel on the reputational, business, and policy risks arising from the evolving defense policy and budget landscape.
  • Partner closely with Legal and our defense business to navigate shifts in defense acquisition policy and advocate for outcomes favorable to the company.
  • Prepare and support business leaders at external defense policy forums, conferences, and meetings with senior elected officials and Administration policymakers.
  • Deliver timely analysis of legislative, budgetary, and policy developments affecting the defense and national security market, translating implications for business leadership.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Media, Strategic Communications, and engagement teams to raise the company's profile at major events and identify moments where the company can shape the policy debate.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of our Political Action Committee strategy.
