About The Position

Leidos is seeking a GIS Technician to work remotely within a 50-mile radius of the Durham, NC office. This role requires 5-10% travel for storm support and occasional office visits. The position is initially through a temp agency for 6 months, with potential for direct hire. The GIS Tech will support electric distribution projects and data maintenance using GIS/CAD software, referencing various documents to update GIS data, identifying and resolving data inconsistencies, and obtaining/manipulating GIS data at state and municipality levels. Collaboration in an Agile team environment is essential.

Requirements

  • 30 credit hours completed in GIS-related program at an accredited university, OR a bachelor's of science degree plus enrollment in a GIS certification program, OR high school diploma plus 2 years of applicable work experience in a GIS-related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, etc.).
  • GIS Software such as Small World, Esri Suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcIMS, ArcWeb services and ArcGIS Server), QGIS.
  • CAD Software such as Bentley Systems (MicroStation), Autodesk (AutoCAD, Maya, Civil 3D).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Client Standards preferred.
  • Overnight travel may be required (10-20% travel).

Responsibilities

  • Use GIS/CAD software to support electric distribution projects and data maintenance for higher complexity and priority projects.
  • Reference as-builts, work management logs, & other documentation to update GIS data to reflect electric distribution construction completed in the field.
  • Identify data inconsistencies and communicate with the appropriate resources to provide accurate data updates to client systems.
  • Obtain and manipulate GIS data at state and municipality level.
  • Work in an Agile team environment where collaboration and receptiveness to feedback are essential to producing high quality work to meet Leidos & clients’ standards.
  • Interface with local clients.
  • Interact with other disciplines (Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural).
  • Partner with a Variety of Utility Clients Nationwide.
