About The Position

This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing. The GIS Assistant role involves direct supervision with some latitude for planning or laying out of working details. The role requires performing average and responsible work in connection with drafting, surveying, and technical work in the field or office. Responsibilities include preparing dimension drawings, keeping map and operating records, and performing related work in the assigned department. Specific tasks involve modeling feeder circuits, rural lines, transformer racks, capacitor and meter installations, and services into the AM/FM GIS system. It also includes entering completed construction jobs into AM/FM/GIS or Entergy’s current graphical software within a specified timeline, assisting in engineering calculations, tables, layouts, studies, reports, and appraisals. The role also involves making line extension sketches for updating the AM/FM GIS system, laying out simple structures, taking field notes, making field sketches, performing field inspections and reports on construction work, and assisting in general and miscellaneous work both in and out of the office.

Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to perform the more elementary drafting, prepare dimension drawings, keep map and operating records, operate copying equipment.
  • Must have one year field operations experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering, or Storeroom), OR Completion of Entergy’s Technical Personal Development Program (TPDP), OR 2 Year Technical Associate Degree in a related field from an accredited school, OR A minimum of 60 College hours toward a 4-year degree in a related field from an accredited school.
  • Be willing and able to furnish information secured from plats and records where a general knowledge of the records is required and have elementary knowledge of methods of calculations as used in survey work.
  • Within six months after employment, know Company's safety rules, and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be willing and able to render practical first aid.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must meet all qualifications of Helper GIS Assistant or one of the following: 3 Years field operations experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering or Storeroom), OR Completion of Entergy’s Technical Personal Development Program (TPDP) and 2 years related work experience, OR 2 Year Technical Associate Degree in a related field from an accredited school and 2 years related work experience, OR A minimum of 60 College hours toward a 4 year degree in a related field from an accredited school and 2 years related work experience, OR 4 Year Technical Degree in a related field from an accredited school.
  • Be familiar with the National Electric Safety Code and any state or local regulations affecting Company's operations as related to his work.
  • Have practical working knowledge of electrical and/or gas and/or water fundamentals.
  • Have a fair knowledge of methods of calculation used in survey work as related to GPS and/or Texas latitude and longitude system.
  • Demonstrate ability to read and understand wiring and field notes, maps, and drawings and/or piping diagrams and blueprints.
  • Attend and take part in all safety meetings, and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be willing and able to render practical first aid.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform equipment installation, removal, and relocate functions in AM/FM DFM and AM/FM GIS systems.
  • Maintain switch database for all switches as related to AM/FM GIS system.
  • Coordinate priority switch changes with DOC to accommodate priority switching.
  • Monitor the engineering merge process in AM/FM GIS.
  • Monitor line sections and trouble-shoot why some do not build in the Outage Management System.
  • Demonstrate ability to trouble-shoot bad predictions from OM because of data problems (mismatches, missing equipment, wrong switching, etc.).
  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
  • Be willing and able to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Be willing and able to receive and execute orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of superiors and subordinates.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare to-scale simple drawings and tracings.
  • Make simple checks and minor alterations of drawings by comparing dimensions.
  • Make field sketches as directed.
  • Perform and assist in general and miscellaneous work in and out of office.
  • Prepare records and reports and perform necessary housekeeping.
  • Operate Company's light duty vehicles.
  • From established standards, model feeder circuits, rural lines, transformer racks, capacitor and meter installations and services as applied to areas into the AM/FM GIS system.
  • Enter completed construction jobs in AM/FM/GIS (automated mapping/facilities management – geographic information systems) or Entergy’s current graphical software, within a specified time line according to the priority of each job.
  • Assist in engineering calculations, tables, layouts, studies, reports, appraisals and related work.
  • Make line extension sketches for updating AM/FM GIS system.
  • Lay out simple structures; take field notes and make field sketches as directed.
  • Make field inspections and reports on construction work.
  • Perform and assist in general and miscellaneous work in and out of office.
