About The Position

GAI Consultants is seeking a GIS Application Developer to support its GIS Group. The role may be based at any GAI office location or performed fully remotely and contributes to projects in the energy, utility, and natural science fields. The developer builds custom Python script tools and toolboxes, Experience Builder widgets, and data integration solutions, using Esri Python and JavaScript APIs to meet internal and external client needs. The position also supports GAI’s Enterprise GIS and its upgrade cycle, coordinates development work and tracks tasks, documents deployed tools, and trains users upon request. The role contributes to technical project work and task management, and may assist with supervising technical studies or serving as Task Manager for small to midsize tasks requiring specialized technical expertise. Guidance and oversight are provided by managers and technical experts. The position may also lead GIS technical staff if assigned as a direct supervisor. Effective communication with staff, managers, and clients is required.

Requirements

12 or more years of professional GIS or application development experience.
Expert-level technical skills with the Esri Python API and arcpy within ArcGIS Pro.
Advanced-level experience creating web maps and web apps in Esri Enterprise GIS.
Advanced-level skills in Python, TypeScript, and HTML5 web design within the Esri API ecosystem.
Advanced-level understanding of code structure and unit-testing implementations.
Basic-level Git skills for managing local code and syncing with remote code repositories.
Basic-level SQL skills for managing relational databases in SQL Server and building custom SQL scripts.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university program in GIS, Information Science/Technology, Geography or Cartography, Computer Science with a GIS certificate or strong GIS aptitude, or another related information science.
Effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Esri certification in Enterprise, Python, JavaScript, or ArcGIS Pro.
Knowledge of other programming languages, such as C#.
Work or educational experience in the energy and natural resources sectors.
Computer Science degree with a GIS certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop custom Python script tools and toolboxes, Experience Builder widgets, and data integration solutions.
Use Esri Python and JavaScript APIs to build custom tools for internal and external clients.
Assist in maintaining GAI’s Enterprise GIS and provide support during upgrades to address potential issues.
Coordinate work within a team and track development tasks on a Board.
Document deployed tools and train users upon request.
Sync code to Azure DevOps using Git and manage local development branches in an IDE.
Learn to develop and author geoprocessing services.
Learn to write code in other relevant programming languages, such as JavaScript, C#, and .NET.
Begin performing task management and assist Task Managers and Project/GIS Managers with technical project aspects as needed.
Assist with supervision of technical studies within assigned tasks and maintain GAI procedures and protocols.
Serve as Task Manager on small to midsize tasks requiring specialized technical expertise, where assigned.
Assist with identifying and scoping technical studies required for projects.
Communicate with staff, Project and Task Managers, Department managerial staff, and clients on technical issues at regular project meetings.
Lead a team of GIS technical staff for a client sector or discipline if assigned as a direct supervisor.
