Manages complex assigned workload and coordinates assigned projects with peers, clients and management. Advises management and clients on best GIS practices.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • For a Level 1 (Associate), a minimum of no previous years of experience to two years related experience is required (if no degree, four-six years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling four-six years).
  • For a Level 2 (Journey), a minimum of two years of experience to four years related experience is required (if no degree, six-eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling six-eight years).
  • For a Level 3 (Senior), a minimum of five years of related experience is required (if no degree, nine years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling nine years).
  • Strong working knowledge of COGO (Coordinate Geometry) tools for parcel and boundary construction.
  • Ability to interpret and incorporate legal descriptions, survey data, engineering drawings, and property plats into accurate cartographic representations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in spatial data validation, QA/QC workflows, and cartographic design principles to ensure maps are accurate, visually coherent, and technically sound.
  • Technical experience working with electric and water utility GIS datasets to accurately model and maintain asset networks supporting system planning, regulatory reporting, and operational decision-making.
  • Discretion in working with corporate proprietary and confidential information used in environmental work, legal cases, water rights adjudication, and facility infrastructure as related to federal and state regulatory requirements (i.e. FERC, Homeland Security).
  • All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • GIS Certified Professional (GISP) preferred.
  • ESRI Technical Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and applies in-depth GIS analysis solutions including but not limited to: remote sensing/aerial photo interpretation, raster modeling, network analysis, polygon overlay analysis and reporting. Work includes the translation of various software datasets, manipulation of intricate data, and execution of complex queries, as well as application of standard spatial analysis functionality.
  • Designs cartographic products consisting of maps, exhibits, presentations and reports prepared from notes, aerial photography and satellite imagery, marked prints, digital data sources, verbal/written instructions, calculations of rough field sketches.
  • Generates and maintains GIS database layers and associated attribute information. Work includes maintaining corporate facility and boundary data in GIS databases with complex topology and networks, that requires extensive research, cross-departmental coordination and background knowledge of company business rules.
  • Manages and documents departmental/corporate computer files and data libraries. Creates and maintains metadata for GIS features.
  • Maintains a productive environment through ongoing improvement and documentation of critical work processes. Work may include troubleshooting issues with project design, procedures, computer files, hardware and software.
  • Participates in testing, documenting and implementing applications and software used by the department.
  • Serves as GIS technical lead, advising management and training co-workers and clients in the use of GIS, graphic and cartographic software(s) and applications. May include presentations or written technical reports.
  • Discovers patterns and trends using location analystics, geostatistics, comparative spatial analyses using complex queries, the suite of ESRI products, and various other software Work may employ the use of Python, SQL, Oracle PLSQL, Arcade, Global Mapper, all ESRI products, Adobe Creative software, and Microsoft Office products
