About The Position

The North Plainfield School District is seeking a Girls Varsity Assistant Wrestling Coach at North Plainfield High School for the 2026–2027 winter season. The assistant coach supports the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and delivering a comprehensive high school girls’ wrestling program. The role includes teaching fundamental and advanced wrestling techniques, fostering character and sportsmanship, prioritizing athlete safety, and assisting with daily administrative and logistical duties. The district describes its athletics programs as emphasizing excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development, and seeks a student-centered coach committed to supporting student-athletes on and off the mat.

Requirements

• Hold a valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate, New Jersey Substitute Certificate, or state-approved coaching eligibility clearance.
• Successfully complete the required district background check and fingerprinting.
• Have current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications before the season starts, or be able to obtain them before the season starts.
• Hold NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification or a state equivalent.
• Hold NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification.
• Hold NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certification.
• Hold Heat Illness Prevention Certification, if applicable.
• Have high school or collegiate wrestling experience.
• Have strong working knowledge of high school wrestling rules, scoring, weight management guidelines, and safety protocols.
• Have excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills for working with student-athletes, parents, administrators, and athletic trainers.

Nice To Haves

• Prior coaching or competition experience in girls’/women’s freestyle or folkstyle wrestling.
