About The Position

The Varsity Girls Bowling Coach will be responsible for the leadership, supervision, and development of the Varsity Girls Bowling team and will be actively involved in the overall Portland Public Schools bowling program. The selected candidate will work collaboratively with the Extra-Curricular & Athletic Coordinator and other coaches within the program to support the continued development and success of Portland Bowling.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of bowling fundamentals, rules, techniques, and strategies
  • Ability to teach and develop bowling skills for student-athletes at varying experience levels
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and positive character development
  • Must have fingerprints scanned electronically and submitted to the Michigan State Police prior to hire

Nice To Haves

  • Previous bowling coaching experience preferred
  • Previous bowling experience at the high school, college, or competitive level
  • Participation in bowling camps, clinics, leagues, or coaching development opportunities
  • Previous experience working with high school student-athletes
  • First Aid certification
  • CPR/AED certification

Responsibilities

  • Planning and conducting practices
  • Teaching bowling fundamentals and strategies
  • Developing student-athletes' skills
  • Supervising athletes during practices and competitions
  • Promoting sportsmanship and academic success
  • Maintaining appropriate communication with athletes and families
  • Assisting with other aspects of the bowling program as needed
