About The Position

Seymour Rogers is seeking a Girls Assistant Basketball Coach. This position is with USD 480 in Liberal, KS. Preference will be given to candidates who hold or are eligible for a current Kansas teaching license. The specific teaching assignment will be determined later. The role involves ensuring professionalism, adhering to administrative duties, and following the chain of command as per Board Policy. The coach must comply with KSHSAA guidelines and rules, represent USD480 appropriately, and exhibit professional conduct towards officials, workers, and opponents. Key responsibilities include ensuring student forms are submitted, creating activity-specific guidelines, conducting parent meetings when required, providing updated rosters, and supporting eligibility guidelines. Students must be supervised at all times before and after activity periods. The coach will also cooperate with the evaluator in scheduling events, coordinate publicity with the Activities Director, and supervise assistant coaches, ensuring they understand their roles. Attendance at department meetings is required, with arrangements made for absences. Assistant coaches must be evaluated within the required timeframe. Travel procedures, including requests and fund management, must follow District Procedure/Board Policy. Supervision on trips and adherence to bussing rules are also essential. The coach will maintain an inventory of uniforms and equipment, instruct on proper use and care, and follow policies for facility and key card use. Scheduling of facilities, including volunteer practices/camps, must adhere to District Policy. Practice frequency, length, and time should align with KSHSAA guidelines. The coach will plan, supervise, and conduct all practice sessions, keep daily attendance records, and maintain/report statistics and awards. Athletic injuries must be handled professionally. The coach will accompany squads to and from all events, or ensure an assistant does so, unless alternate supervision is approved. Budget and fundraising activities must align with KSHSAA and Board Policy, and all work must be performed within the budget provided by USD 480.

Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for a current Kansas teaching license (teaching assignment to be determined).
  • Must follow the chain of command per Board Policy.

  • Must exhibit professional treatment of all officials, workers, and opponents.
  • Must ensure students have required forms submitted prior to their participation.
  • Must create activity-specific guidelines, including a schedule of events and practices, and discuss with evaluator prior to the start of the activity.
  • Must conduct a parent meeting if required by evaluator.
  • Must provide evaluator with updated rosters before activity and as rosters change throughout the year.
  • Must support and follow eligibility guidelines per Board Policy.
  • Students must be supervised before/after all activity periods, never left unattended after events on or off school grounds.
  • Must report activity results as required by Activities Director.
  • Must cooperate with evaluator in providing input or communication regarding the scheduling of events.
  • Must coordinate publicity materials about the activity (interviews, reports, etc.) with the assistance of the Activities Director.
  • Must supervise and support assistants during activity time.
  • Must see that all assistants know their roles and duties regarding the activity.
  • Must follow policies and procedures per Board Policy.
  • Must attend all activity/athletic department meetings or make arrangements with evaluator prior to the meeting date.
  • Must perform evaluation of assistants (if necessary) within the required time frame.
