About The Position

The Newport Aquarium Gift Shop Host is responsible for proper cash handling and maintaining PCI compliance, ensuring guest and team member satisfaction with a positive attitude and appearance. This role involves approaching guests in a friendly manner to provide information about the Newport Aquarium, maintaining safety as a top priority, and collaborating with other team members and departments for effective communication. The host must be self-motivated, disciplined, reliable, and possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills. They will maintain knowledge of aquarium activities, aquatic life, and special events/promotions to inform guests. Additional duties include stock replenishment and adhering to Herschend Enterprises’ Core Values, Newport Aquarium Guest Service Standards, Policies, Procedures, and Safety Protocols.

Requirements

• Must have strong public speaking skills and the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
• Must be able to think clearly, react quickly, and calmly to changes and/or emergency situations.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and/or weekends and holidays.
• Availability on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
• Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time, ascend & descend floors, bend, and stoop.
• No history of allergies related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work.
• Physical strength, including the ability to lift, push, pull up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Prior cash handling and point of sale experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
• Previous guest service or retail experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for proper cash handling and maintaining PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance.
• Maintain appropriate guest and team member relations, ensuring guest and team satisfaction.
• Maintain a positive attitude and appearance.
• Approach guests in a friendly manner to help and provide information regarding Newport Aquarium.
• Keep safety as a number one priority while working at Newport Aquarium.
• Work with other team members/departments of Newport Aquarium to ensure effective communication.
• Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by the Merchandise management team e.g. stock replenishment.
• Perform, adhere to, and implement all Herschend Enterprises’ Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Service Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure safe and efficient guest service operations.
